A road runs through it

Noticed an uncommon thing at the Amsterdam airport – between the takeoff strip and the airport, the plane runs over a tunnel which houses a highway! I could see cars coming towards the plane and then going under. It was quite shocking to see a civilian road running THROUGH an airport, when most of the airports keep people at a safe distance.

And when I pointed this out to a friend, he said that in Sacramento, when you are driving, you could see road signs that say – “Watch out for planes crossing”. That is WOW! It seems people have small planes parked in their driveways, taxy them to the nearest airfield and take off (to work)!!

well in india, we have trucks and jeeps whizzing across the runway just before planes touchdown! i have had personal experience..cant imagine what would happen if we actually had a road that ran through it..

singapore, in contrast, is an amazine maze of escalators within an amazing number of air-conditioned shopping malls. the traffic is so disciplined that sometimes my nerves wreck havoc and i sincerely WANT to be on the chaotic indian roads.

i do not wish to be in sacramento though i wish there was a small four seater King Lear parked in my backyard…

I think even KL has a road running through the airport — at least that’s what I remember.
